Door Thresholds
All Door Innovations folding door systems use a foam compression weather strip between each door and between the doors and frame to seal against water and air infiltration. The soft foam acts as a gasket when the doors are closed to seal between each component. A polyethylene cover over the foam prevents water from passing through this seal.
Weather resistance UNDER the doors is dependent on which threshold you choose.
Weathertight threshold is the BEST threshold for total weather resistance. It offers the same foam compression weather stripping along the bottom of the door that is between and around the doors. It also incorporates a drain return system so that any water getting into the bottom track is drained back out. This threshold is required where flooring or furnishings that would be damaged by any water infiltration are close to the door system.
Low-Rise, In-Floor Track and ADA thresholds require nylon brush weather strip attached to the bottom of the door. This will create some barrier between the bottom of the door and the top of the threshold or floor. However, since it is made up of individual fibers water can pass through it and it may not block all wind and dust. Carefully consider your application when choosing a threshold with nylon brush weather strip. The opening should not be exposed to direct rain or should be an application where water infiltration under the door will not cause damage.
